Still struggling to attract visitors to your website? Traffic is a direct indication of a site’s success. Whether your goal is to sell a product, generate leads, newsletter signups, etc., you need visitors to succeed. But how are you supposed to get people to visit your website in the first place?
Start a Blog
Launching a blog is sure to generate traffic to your website, and it’s actually easier than most people realize. Assuming you already have a website, you can add a blog as either a subdomain (e.g. blog.yourwebsite.com) or a subdirectory (e.g. yourwebsite.com/blog). Either way, this allows you to blog from within your website, without investing in a second domain name. And once people begin to read your blog, some of them will likely check out your main website to see what it’s all about.
Pay For It
Depending on your budget, you may want to consider paid sources of traffic. Google’s Adwords program, for instance, is a highly effective way to drive tons of targeted traffic to a website. If follows a simple pay-per-click (PPC) payment model in which you only pay when a qualified visitor clicks on your ad. As long as you achieve a higher earnings per click (EPC) than cost per click (CPC), you’ll have a profitable Adwords campaign.
When you create a new page on your website, try to get into the habit of posting a link to it on your social media accounts. This includes Facebook, Twitter and Google+ at minimum. Doing so will draw attention to your site’s new content, at which point some users will likely visit it.
Content is King
Arguably, the most effective way to drive traffic to your website is to publish content that people actually want to read. If you give visitors a reason to check out your site, you’ll notice a significant improvement in your traffic.
Blog Commenting
SEO tactics have come and gone over the years, but blog commenting remains a time-tested method to create natural backlinks while increasing a website’s traffic in the process. It involves submitting comments on relevant blogs with a link pointing back to your own site. When used sparingly — and as part of a larger marketing strategy — blog commenting is sure to attract visitors to your site.
Note: this tactic only works if the blog allows users to specify their website URL — a feature that’s disabled by some blogs
